On Veterans Day, November 11, we honor those who have served in our armed forces and thank them for their service.
Snapshot of data about veterans:
There are over 21 million veterans living in the United States. Over 16 million of our veterans served in a time of war. The largest percentage of those veterans (7.5 million) served in the Gulf War Era, closely followed by just under 7 million during the Vietnam War. Over 5 million veterans have served in peacetime.
Nearly 10 million veterans served in the Army; 4.3 million in the Navy; 3.5 million in the Air Force; 2.5 million in the Marines; and over 1 million in the reserves.
About 2 million veterans are women.
66,000+ veterans are over the age of 85, and 46,000 are under age 25. Around 500,000 are ages 50 to 60.
With so many veterans, there is a good chance that you know a veteran or have one in your family. We urge you to thank them for their service in person on Veterans Day!
